Frequently Asked Questions

We currently offer boys and girls basketball. Based on interest and available volunteer coaches, the Board, with parent input, will then consider expansion to other sports offerings. The long-term vision is to have a variety of homeschool sports, teams, and age groups.

We compete against other homeschool teams, public, private, and charter schools. Additional competition opportunities come from local/regional tournaments and recreational leagues.

For basketball, we follow the age guidelines outlined by the National Christian Homeschool Basketball Conference (NCHBC) which uses August 1st as the cut-off. Therefore, a player cannot turn the year older than their age group before August 1st. Players may play in a higher age group if desired. For basketball, we will follow NCHBC age groups (10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, & 18U).

Basketball practices commence end of October and run up until end of February. Practices are two times per week and schedules depend upon court availability.  A draft schedule will be made available to families prior to any registration fees being paid.

As an independent club, all players will be assessed a registration fee that covers uniforms, warm-up shirts, tournament entry fees, court time, and referree costs. Registration fees will not include any travel expenses which will be the responsibility of each family. Sponsorships will be sought to help offset player registration fees.

The schedule consists of games in Central Ohio as well as those in surrounding regions (typically within approximately 1 hour driving distance). Furthermore, teams may participate in tournaments that require travel and overnight accommodations. A draft schedule (with expected travel) will be made available to families prior to any registration fees being paid.

Practices will be held at Grove City United Methodist Church (2684 Columbus St, Grove City, OH 43123). Home games will be held at Scioto Southland Community Center in Columbus. Away games will vary based on the location of the competition.

Basketball practices will begin the 3rd week of October and run up until end of February, concluding with teams participating in the NCHBC regional and/or national tournaments.

Yes. The Legends will adhere to the NCHC Eligibility Guidelines. Homeschools is defined by the NCHC such that “a student’s education is parent-directed and done at home.” Further clarifications are given to parent-directed, types of education that are acceptable, and academic expectations.

We are a parent-run volunteer organization. A commitment and support from reach family unit is needed and expected. Upon registering for the season, each family will have an opportunity to sign up for a volunteer role. These include opportunities for coaching, fundraising, coordinating program service activities, helping coordinate travel, game day experience, etc.
